When Passions Collide

Today's post is more a request for aid than a rant or political statement. Recently, my two passions, my family and my country have collided. There is an old addage that opposites attract and this is certainly the case between me and my wife. I am one of the most political of creatures and she is not. The difference in us, is without a doubt, due to the fundamental difference in our experiences. She's neve left her hometown for any length of time in her 38 years and I've never really had a hometown in mine. I joined the Army at the tender age of 17 because even then I felt that I should give back to this nation. In the Army I was given a sense of my place in the world and in my nation. A warrior ethos was instilled in me that I retain after 20 years of being out of the military. She on the other hand, has worked 2 jobs in her adult life. Both here in Hometown, Ok.

For those that are familiar with some of my older and more introspective posts, it is clear that I am both a patriot and an evangelical christian. I believe in the Constitution and our Founding Fathers' collective wisdom in what they created. Even in the dissenting views that almost kept our great republic from even being formed. I am also a believer in the Bible and find more and more relief in the words in red. I also see in the bible, a total lack of any reference to this nation. Therefore, I have to concede the eventual destruction of this nation. Or in the very least, the hamstringing of it. These beliefs form the core of my very stubborn and conflicted view of America.

My wife on the other hand is new to her faith and tends to live in the here and now. By here I mean within the family unit, and by now I mean literally NOW. She doesn't try to plan for the future and it is left to me to try for increases in our fortunes. This is the end all, be all of her existance. Get up, go to work, eat, sleep. Rinse and repeat. In her mind, there are no other REAL priorities outside of the family. Honor and Duty ONLY apply to dealing with family matters.

This is the crux of my collision of obligations. She says that I have not been truly happy since I started getting politically involved. She says that she feels that I ignore my family for the political discourse and that my values are skewed. I believe she even said that I was obsessing about it. No arguments on my part that I AM trying to take care of my kids, by trying to ensure their futures fell on deaf ears. All of my efforts to explain my views on Service, Duty, and Honor as they reflect in my belief structure, may as well have been arguments against the wind blowing. They made that little of a dent.

So here I am, asking for you, my friends, to come to my aid and help me discover a way to reach and teach my wife, exactly who and what she married 6 years ago.

State of Affairs

A couple of definitions for you to mull over:

states·man (stāts′mən)

noun pl. statesmen -·men (-mən) a person who shows wisdom, skill, and vision in conducting state affairs and dealing with public issues, or one engaged in the business of government.

poli·ti·cian (päl′ə tish′ən)

noun -
1. a person actively engaged in politics, esp. party politics, professionally or otherwise; often, a person holding or seeking political office: frequently used in a derogatory sense, with implications of seeking personal or partisan gain, scheming, opportunism, etc.
2. a person skilled or experienced in practical politics or political science

I've had a bee of an idea buzzing around my head and bothering me for most of today. Our problem in society is that at some point in the last 100 years, Statesmen have become extinct and the politicians have started running things. No longer do we have a vision or do we have men of character charting our course.

Many times I have referenced our founders and found their wisdom in founding this nation, both wise and far seeing. I admit that they had faults, the more I research our founding the more foibles I find. But their wisdom in creating this government, even to the intense disagreements between Federalists and Anti-federalists, has been proven to be valid and timeless. How I long for a moral leader to stand up and take the reigns of this nation. Are all of the bloodlines of Madison, Jackson, Jefferson, and Washington dead? Is there no one of passion and conviction for the Foundations of this nation, still breathing?

If I could find a man of the strength of character of even the least of our Founders he would be twice the man as anyone that has held national public office in 100 years. I long for a leader to call on the nation to relearn what this country was founded on. Liberty. Not the amoral freedoms of the Libertarians and not the lawlessness of the anarchists. True liberty, where man is free to make those choices that will increase his standard of living and allow for the pursuit of happiness without fetter from the government.

Our founders wanted a unified society that was free to pursue the goals of the individual and thereby enhancing the lives and livelihood of the whole. We have strayed far from their path. I hope that a leader arises to bring us back on course soon. Otherwise, it may be too late for a useful and meaningful attempt.

2nd Amendment. A Deeper Look.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." - U.S. Constitution, Second Amendment.

This is the primary protection that our founders gave us, to keep the federal government under control, and lessen the chances of tyranny. When you read this, at least one question may come to mind. First, what is meant by "A well regulated Militia". In the following essay,the information for which was compiled by a state militia member with the rank of Lt. Colonel, the definition and argument for civilian militias will be put before you. Judge it by the standard of the 2nd amendment and how our Founding Fathers saw the militias and their purposes.

How and Why of Militias

Definition of Militia:
In recent times various members of Congress and others in official positions within the administrations of government have made arguments concerning the definition of a militia in an attempt to ensure that only government authorized and sanctioned bodies of citizens have the right to assemble and train in activities associated with a military force ( i.e. National Guard and Reserve units ). Their reasons for these attempts or are not fully known, but are suspicious none the less. It was made evident in our Constitution that it is the responsibility of citizens within a Free State, that they should and could, form and maintain an assembled body of able men (and woman) to train and practice in the activities involved with military actions. And that they should at regular times, assemble for such purpose, as to maintain a state of readiness.

The following is the legal definition of Militia as found in Blacks Law Dictionary.“The body of citizens in a State, enrolled for discipline as a military force, but not engaged in actual service except in emergencies, as distinguished from regular troops or a standing Army."

A break down of this definition for the purpose of understanding it would go as follows:

  • The body of citizens in a State, is very simple and self explanatory.
  • Enrolled for discipline as a military force, but not engaged in actual service except in emergencies, This would be all males, who by law, must now enroll in the selective service upon turning the age of 18.
  • As distinguished from regular troops or a standing Army. Regular troops are just that, those troops who are members of the regular Army, National Guard, or Reserve.

That is what a militia "is". Now we should cover the "why" of joining and forming militias. Here are a sampling of the way our Founding Fathers saw militias

“Little more can reasonably be aimed at, with respect to the people at large, than to have them properly armed and equipped; and in order to see that this not be neglected, it will be necessary to assemble them once or twice a year. This will not only lessen the call for military establishments, but if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude, that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people, while there is a large body of citizens, little, if at all, inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow citizens. This appears to me the only substitute that can be devised for a standing army, and the best possible security against it, if it should exist.” –Alexander Hamilton, - Federalist Papers, Article 29 Jan. 10, 1788

“A militia, when properly formed, are in fact the people themselves, and render regular troops in a great measure unnecessary....the militia shall always be kept well organized, armed and disciplined, and include... all men capable of bearing arms;... whereas, to preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always posses arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, and how to use them.”– Richard Henry Lee, - Letters from the Federal Farmer, 1788

“Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people’s liberty teeth and keystone under independence. The church, the plow, the prairie wagon and citizens firearms are indelibly related. From the hour that the pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to insure peace, security, and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable. Every corner of this land knows firearms, and more than 99.9% of them by their silence indicate they are in safe and sane hands. The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place in honor with all that is good. When firearms go, all goes – we need them every hour.” -George Washington, - President of the United States, - Address to the Second Session of the First United States Congress, Jan.7, 1790

“To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace.” George Washington, - Writings of George Washington at 30:391

“It is always dangerous to the liberties of the people to have an army stationed among them, over which they have no control... The militia is composed of free citizens. There is therefore no danger of their making use of their power to the destruction of their own rights, or suffering others to invade them.”– Samuel Adams, - Personal writings III, 1806

“They tell us we are weak, unable to cope with such a formidable adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be next week, or next year? Will it be when we are totally disarmed? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies have bound us hand and foot? We are not weak if we make a proper use of the means which the gods of nature has placed in our power. Millions of people armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible. Besides, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just god who presides over the destinies of nations, who will rise up friends to fight our battle for us. The battle, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Many cry “peace, peace” – but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! Why we stand here idle? And now here's a few from our more influential Presidents of the last Century:

“Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the president or any other public official, save to the degree in which he himself stands by the country. It is patriotic to support him insofar as he efficiently serves the country. It is unpatriotic not to oppose him to the exact extent that by inefficiency or otherwise he fails in his duty to stand by the country. In either event, it is unpatriotic not to tell the truth, whether about the president or anyone else...” –Theodore Roosevelt, President of the United States, - Date unknown

“If all Americans want is security, they can go to prison. They’ll have enough to eat, a bed, and a roof over their heads. But if an American wants to preserve his dignity and his equality as a human being, he must not bow his neck to any dictatorial government.”– Dwight D. Eisenhower, President of the United States - Dec.9, 1949.

And now you must decide for yourself how you will respond to the acts perpetrated on our Republic. Freedom of speech is under direct threat by our "Free Press" and by the FCC by their policy to confiscate radio stations and award them to minorities, There are numerous bills in congress that would seek to limit the second amendment and at least one treaty that would subject american gun owners and dealers to international laws and allow for extradition. If you decide that what is posted here is Truth in fact, then you must commit yourself to joining, supporting, or founding a militia. Your next question will be how you can do something like that.

Ways of forming militias

One of the easiest ways to begin to form a militia starts at the local level, (ie County) by talking with friends, family, neighbors, and business associates whom you believe may, or have already expressed their belief, that there is sufficient cause to consider that some day there could be a need to defend their freedoms and liberties, families, or property from any possible threat that could arise. And feel that existing defenses such as regular military forces, Guard and Reserve forces may not be adequate, capable in time, or unwilling to do so under the circumstances. Whether that possible threat is from within or outside of the country is moot.

After determining that there are willing and able volunteers of a sufficient number to begin, it would be required to determine how and where a group could meet and discuss some sort of chain of command and duties that each individual could and would perform. Then that group would have to find and or procure a relatively large and some what remote area that they could begin to train and teach themselves the types of skills that would be needed to the best of their abilities. Having members which have or are currently serving in a military organization is not vital but certainly aids in the training process. Then it would be advised that additional recruitment measures be taken to increase the size and effectiveness of your force, as well as to increase the diversity of skills that could be of use. It would also be wise to try and enlist members from the Law Enforcement community as well, especially those at the county level, as they often share opinions that could be considered to be more conservative than those on the smaller local level. There are three reasons for this; one is that history has shown that totalitarian regimes have often used existing policing agencies and their members to act as enforcers of their policies due to their knowledge of their communities and members of the local population. A second reason for this is they also have access to communications that other wise may not be available to the average person, which could be advantageous to maintaining security and allowing a lead time for making preparations for a defense. A third reason is they also have access to materials and equipment that is other wise not available to the average civilian. Another group of professionals that would be of value to a militia are those in the agricultural and construction profession as the larger types of vehicles that they possess can be relatively quickly enhanced to serve as a primitive form of “heavy armor” and or troop transport as well as engineering vehicles (ie building birms and trenches). Once these things have been accomplished it is only natural that a militia should have regular times that they assemble and train in their skills. And it is only natural that it will continue to grow as time goes on. Also, it is only natural that there may be members that are there to “observe and report” to others that do not appreciate your efforts, so it is imperative that all operations are not done in an illegal way or to use illegal tactics, weapons, or devices, and that existing laws are not violated.

2nd Amendment. Educate yourself.

The only thing about this post that bothers me, is that I didn't find this information first. For that honor I have to give a hat tip to my friends at Do The Right Thing. Anyone who reads my posts knows that I no longer have ANY faith in the government to do the right thing where our rights are concerned. It is also not a huge secret that I feel that the government has been ramping up a war against Conservative minded individuals.

To this aim, they have embarked on a campaign of propaganda against the founding principles of this nation, for years through the education system. Chief among the attacks, has been an assault on our Founding Fathers as racists and slave owners. I'm not going to use this post as a means of arguing against this general load of scatology. There were indeed a couple states that argued for slavery but it was not a consensus. See previous post entitled, "Our Founders on Slavery- Re-Educating The Liberally Educated". It covers the topic nicely.

The point of this post, is the second item that is under attack most often, and specifically now, in relation to the changes that our current rulers are instigating. The Second Amendment. I do not have the words to argue the point any better than has already been done at a site called "Jews For The Preservation of Firearms Ownership". They have made a move called "2A Today for the USA". Watch it. Download it. Copy it. Give it away. It is some of the most important information that you can get.

Then comes the harder part. If you decide that what it says makes sense, find, found, and/or join a civilian militia. Spread the word regardless. I feel that our time to organize a defense is growing shorter. The more we ramp up our education and resistance to the Socialist/Marxist forces in our government, the more force they will decide to bring to bear on We The People. Educate yourselves and arm yourselves. Otherwise, the man with the gun WILL control those that don't have one.

White House wants Fed to be bank supercop

WASHINGTON — The White House told industry officials on Friday that it is leaning toward recommending that the Federal Reserve become the supercop for "too big to fail" companies capable of causing another financial meltdown.

UPDATE: God in heaven, I can't believe I am going to say this... Thanks to Ducky for pointing out that the Wilson quote was wrong. (shudder) After I dug deeper, it is clear that the quote is indeed a misrepresented quote and not about the FED at all. So we can all go back to thinking of him as a traitor. I have deleted the quote.

True Universal Health Care

What conservative values do you think it's worth fighting and dying for? Gun rights? That's a no brainer. Right to free speech? Duh. How about the right to practice our religion as we see fit? Of course. But I've got a story to tell you that shows what trued conservatives DO not just say, when one of their own is in trouble. Let's see if you can find this kind of story in L.A. or N.Y.

Here in Oklahoma there is a woman that was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in her brain. They performed surgery to remove it and could only get 70% as she started having complications. The rest is to be attacked using chemo and radiation. Here's the kicker, she doesn't have insurance. (queue the Obama music) (wait, never mind) Instead of waiting and begging the government to come to this woman's aid, a friend of hers decided he would take matters into his own hands. Over a three week period he and a friend set up a fund raising picnic in their town. Each donated a full pig from their farms to this endeavor. One is for the whole hog roast and the other is to be raffled off (the meat processor is donating his time to process the animal). I'm going although I do not know the woman. I am moved by what true conservatives are led to do for each other. They don't wait for the government to step in, they roll up their sleeves and get busy themselves.

This is the mark of a true Conservative. They give to each other out of love and generosity. Not because some government agency came and took what they have at gunpoint to give to someone else. Liberals will find this an archaic idea. After all, the government exists (in their mind) to take care of us and see to our needs. This is not OUR way. The compassion that a Liberal feels is false, as it comes from a sense of self-superior guilt. The compassion that comes from the Conservative is based upon true love for his neighbor, and a desire to give a little back. This is the reason why charitable giving is so much higher in Conservatives than Liberals.

God bless this man and his friend for what they are doing. God bless this woman and heal her infirmity.

Food For Thought. Or Maybe Panic?

Ok. So most people that know me and the things posted on here know that I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I prefer to have my facts laid out and researched before I sign on to a theory. However, the following video, while having a lot that I don't agree with, does highlight some issues that I shall be looking into personally over the immediate future. So get a drink, put the cookie crunchers to bed, put on your "crazy" hat and watch this video.

Now decide for yourself. I know that the Founders that I quote so often felt that a Central Bank making monetary policy was more dangerous than foreign armies. If even an eighth of what is on this video is correct, then it is all by itself, a horrendous indictment of our government and the chances of us regaining our freedom by peaceful means.

New Position

A funny thing happened to me as I drove home tonight. I had a phone conversation with Pat Dollard of patdollard.com and he offered me a position helping him with patdollard.com. I will be working with him from 10p.m. Central time until 12:00 a.m. Central Monday thru Friday. This will start just as soon as I can get myself up to speed on how he runs his site. Hopefully, I'll be giving you a more definite update tomorrow.

This is a great opportunity and I hope that you all will come visit with me there. I will still be posting here just as I am now, I just wanted to share with you, my friends, my new opportunity. Thanks for the support here and there (hint, hint) and God bless.

“Politics is war by other means.” - Pat Dollard

Seems backward, doesn’t it? Didn’t von Clausewitz say the opposite, that war is politics by other means? Indeed he did. Yet we find ourselves in a position whereby the above statement is true.

It didn’t have to be this way. The Founding Fathers disagreed vehemently about many things, but at the end of the day, were on the same side. Yet now, we find ourselves facing an opposition of our own titular countrymen, who hate freedom, and seek only control. A political class rules us, and the population wallows in mediocrity, allowing this to happen. We have no choice. The war has already started. Not to throw out quotes too much, but, “Never start a fight, but always finish one.”

To this end, we cannot approach this purely as politics in the sense we grew up understanding. IT. IS. WAR. At the end of a war, a real war, there are only three types of people left: the conquerors, the conquered, and the dead. Defeat, surrender, compromise are no longer options. Our enemy seeks the destruction of our culture and our ultimate subjugation. We must thus seek to utterly destroy their system, lest they do the same to us.

Von Clausewitz spoke of two main factors to waging war–means and will. Means is the easy part. History is replete with examples of oppressed people getting around the restrictions placed on them by their conquerors in order to fight back. Most Eastern “open hand” martial arts had their origins this way. Means can always be found, even if they need to be taken from the enemy. Will is the more difficult, and the more important. Without the will to win, and win decisively, any power, no matter how great, will lose. France in Indochina and Algeria. The US in Vietnam, and still possibly in the Middle East, time will tell. Will is everything. We must steel our will to win, no matter how long it takes, or how much it costs us personally. Decisive victory is required, or else we will be re-fighting this cancer over and over again over the next decades. It could be this particular enemy will never go away entirely, and the war must be re-fought every couple of centuries or so. But better a couple of centuries than decades. We must win, and win completely. To that end, we must have the will to go all the way.

Undoubtedly, some among our number will lack, or lose, this will. They will go only so far and balk. Let them go. Samuel Adams said much the same over two hundred years ago. They will urge compromise, say, “We can live with this much, this isn’t that bad.” That way lies defeat.

We will return to the subject of means and will shortly.

Another vital element in war is initiative. Acknowledging that at this point in time, we are still girding ourselves for this war, we must not continue to react to the enemy. Sooner or later, preferably sooner, we must make them react to us. They believe they have control. Take that control away. Destroy their sense of security. Make them take the defensive. No adversary on the defensive has ever won. Through demonstrations and civil disobedience, and eventually, as necessity dictates, through stronger measures, we can make the enemy react to us, rather than the other way around. Do not simply pick new legislation to protest. Drive back against the creeping usurpations of the last century. Strike at things that have become assumptions of society and politics. Push them out of their comfort zone. They have no difficulty doing it to us. Forget the status quo. Push, and when you feel them start to give, push harder.

In order to seize the initiative, we require intelligence. We already have some of this, as there are those working constantly to keep us apprised of the steps the enemy is taking against us and our countrymen. It is not enough, however. Intelligence is generally defined by the military as: “the product resulting from collection, evaluation, and interpretation of information which concerns one or more aspects of a foreign nation, or of functional or geographic areas, and which is immediately or potentially significant to the development and execution of plans, policies, and operations.” What does that mean? We need to collect information that gives us insight not only into what the enemy is doing, but also what they are planning to do, and, even more importantly, their blind spots and weaknesses. Trolling the news sites is not enough. We have to get inside their heads, and find what we need to get them by the throat.

Somewhat obliquely returning to means and will. The nature of this war is not as much of a stand-up fight as some of us, including the author, would like. The prime example is where a lot of this originated, with the Frankfurt School and “Cultural Marxism.” The enemy has attacked us not at our heart, but at our soul. They have set out to destroy everything that made Western culture strong. Before we can push them back, we have to draw the line, and say, “This far, and no farther.”

But we must do more than say it. We must act to hold, to buttress, and to harden that line. As our organization, our network grows, we must do more than organize. We must work to come to trust each other, much as members of a military unit. The enemy wants people who are docile, submissive, unarmed, and dependent. We must strengthen the idea that dependence is slavery, that submission is death, and that to be unarmed is to be less than a man. Docility is anathema. We must be armed, able, and strong. We live in a society where we don’t want to be feared. Let them fear us. It is well for them to fear us. This country was built by men who could kill their own food, stand up against the elements, and hold their own in a fight. Skill in arms was a prerequisite for manhood in all of Western society, until the last century. We must return to that, because an armed man is a free man.

Do not run out and buy up an EBR (Evil Black Rifle) because you must now be armed. This is not because so-called “assault rifles” scare the opposition. Quite the opposite. It is because they are inferior to a true rifleman’s weapon. Jeff Cooper defined a rifleman as being capable of obtaining disabling single-round hits out to five hundred yards. It is more important to learn to shoot, and have a weapon that fits your capabilities. Ignore how it looks. The enemy focuses on appearances. That is their weakness. Take advantage of it. Find their weaknesses. Exploit them.

The cultural war must be fought on a cultural level. We must reexamine the stories of our ancestors, our forbearers. Find reading and spread it around. The enemy floods the media of all types with their poison. The antidote is out there. We must find it and share it. When we find literature that promotes Western ideals of independence, honor, and duty, we must devour it, and encourage others to read it and share it. Better yet, tell these stories. Bring them back into our people’s consciousness.

Trust was mentioned above. Neighborhood groups must be prepared to come to each other’s aid, under any circumstances, and must be able to trust their fellow members to do the same. George Mason, who wrote the Second Amendment, said that, “What is the militia? It is the whole people, except for a few public officials.” There need be no overt organization. It becomes an expectation of citizenship.

In summation, the task before us now is to instill in our people an intolerance of despotism in all its forms, and an admiration and desire for independence in everyday life. Cussedness will be the order of the day. Taking handouts will be shameful. Only in this way can we begin to gain ground on those who would make us sheep.

On this site and posting on others, I've continually asked several questions. Some of these questions relate to point of view concerning our current state of affairs. Some on the will that people have for fighting the evils that are permeating our nation.

Most that I've talked to agree with me, in principle, that we are under concerted attack from the Statists (leftist, liberal, you pick the moniker) and our freedoms are being eroded like floodwater over dry, bare dirt.

The sticky part comes in when you start talking about organizing. Tea parties are good but they lack focus. They lack a means of taking it to the perpetrators. It's no secret that I have been looking for groups to get involved with that have a compatible point of view and ideology as my own.

I joined the 9/12 project and find it to be little more than a social site where people get their warm fuzzies by reading posts. I found the Oathkeepers and found a good solid group of ex-military, current military, and present and past law enforcement people that give good lip service to the right things. I hope that their promises to keep their oaths is long in being put to the test, however, I no longer think that is the case as current events tend to say otherwise.

And finally I stumbled onto the brainchild of Pat Dollard. ACTIVE. They have a good understanding (so far as I can tell) of organizing into regional, state, and local groups and how to get started fighting the cultural war. They provide literature and methods by which to recruit and educate/indoctrinate.

Sidebar: That word "indoctrinate" has been given a negative connotation by modern Conservatives, as it is the word we use to describe the damage being done to our children by the liberal education process. It's time to take that word back and used it as a weopon against those misinformation spewing folks and put the philosophies of our Founders in their stead. Sounds like indoctrination to me. A positive indoctrination to be sure.

Go by the site, check them out. If you find them to be of like mind and compatible with your level of willingness to take this cultural fight to those that perpetrate tyranny, JOIN! Confirmation of Doom For Freedom

I've been told that we can hold out, that Freedom will survive if we just put pressure on the people in Congress. My response has been that if the cult of Obama has taken root too deeply in Congress, they will look more to getting his agenda passed ,then they will to their chances of re-election. In fact, they may see him as a huge set of coat-tails to ride into re-election.

Our Founders on Slavery- Re-Educating The Liberally Educated

This post is in response to a comment thread on another site that I frequent. The discussion turned off the current topic and someone made the statement, "Besides, didn't some of the founding fathers acknowledge slavery and even approve of its use?" First off, I have to point out that this comment didn't have diddly to do with the conversation we were having. Secondly, my first inclination was to dismiss it as a worthless argument to address and just ignore it. However, it was pointed out to me in another comment by a worthy individual that to do so would approve the message by default. So as not to take the other post hostage to this argument, I decided to post a full and complete (as well as I may) answer to such an asinine point.

First, I want it understood that although I revere and respect our Founders, I do not worship them. They were human and made mistakes and committed sins, the same as you and I. What I revere them for is there uncommon wisdom and foresight in creating the governance that showed a steady incline in freedoms and liberty for over 130 years. The decline started when we started turning from those foundations and the current social and economic situation that we find ourselves in is a direct response. Now as to keep from going further on this tangent I'll get after the main point.

Slavery was in practice in the colonies 200 years before Jefferson, Madison, and Washington among others, started this nation. "Prior to the great Revolution, the great majority ... of our people had been so long accustomed to the practice and convenience of having slaves that very few among them even doubted the propriety and rectitude of it." -John Jay, 1891

It was, in point of fact, the Revolution that became a turning point for the slavery issue. The Founding Fathers contributed greatly to the changing of attitudes concerning the practice. In fact, many of them complained vociferously about the British forcing the practice on the colonies. Thomas Jefferson wrote, "He [King George III] has waged cruel war against human nature itself, violating its most sacred rights of life and liberty in the persons of a distant people who never offended him, captivating and carrying them into slavery in another hemisphere or to incur miserable death in their transportation thither. . . . Determined to keep open a market where men should be bought and sold, he has prostituted his negative for suppressing every legislative attempt to prohibit or to restrain this execrable commerce [that is, he has opposed efforts to prohibit the slave trade]."

And this wasn't the only Founder who felt this way. In addition to Thomas Jefferson, there was Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, John Quincy Adams (known as the "hell hound of abolition"), Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, Charles Carol. Many of the Founders such as George Washington, John Dickinson, Caesar Rodney, William Livingston, George Wythe, John Randolph of Roanoke, and others released the slaves that they owned in the years following the Revolution. They saw it as incompatible with the ideas of freedom and Natural Law. Alexander Hamilton: "The laws of certain states …give an ownership in the service of negroes as personal property…. But being men, by the laws of God and nature, they were capable of acquiring liberty—and when the captor in war …thought fit to give them liberty, the gift was not only valid, but irrevocable."

Yes, there were Founders that supported slavery. Most notably those of the Southern States of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. However, even with the support of those states, an overwhelming majority of the Founders saw slavery as Evil.

"The inconsistency of the institution of domestic slavery with the principles of the Declaration of Independence was seen and lamented by all the southern patriots of the Revolution; by no one with deeper and more unalterable conviction than by the author of the Declaration himself [Jefferson]. No charge of insincerity or hypocrisy can be fairly laid to their charge. Never from their lips was heard one syllable of attempt to justify the institution of slavery. They universally considered it as a reproach fastened upon them by the unnatural step-mother country [Great Britain] and they saw that before the principles of the Declaration of Independence, slavery, in common with every other mode of oppression, was destined sooner or later to be banished from the earth. Such was the undoubting conviction of Jefferson to his dying day. In the Memoir of His Life, written at the age of seventy-seven, he gave to his countrymen the solemn and emphatic warning that the day was not distant when they must hear and adopt the general emancipation of their slaves." -John Quincy Adams, An Oration Delivered Before the Inhabitants of the Town of Newburyport at Their Request on the Sixty-First Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1837.

So, were there Founders that believed in Slavery? Yes. But the inspiration I take from the clear majority of them is well founded. Slavery was wrong, and the Founding Fathers that I look to for guidance in the manner to which I would like to see our nation return itself to greatness, were very clear in their moral and religious stance to this topic.

Change Is What He Promised. He Delivered.

Well, Barry said he was running on a platform of "change". Boy is he giving it to us. He's changed us from a free market system to a socialized or nationalized system. With more to come in the months ahead. He's on the brink of complete nationalization of the Medical, Financial, and Automotive industries and looking to broaden his control through his tax cheat Geitner.

He has driven our national debt to levels that are insustainable if you use real math and not D.C. Math. He's tried to completely rule the internal workings of the States by power of the purse and there are rumblings of his trying to control not only the airwaves with a new fairness policy, but also plans for a similar policy that would affect all of us bloggers.

Now for the Grand Pubah of socialist agendas, HR45 is a gun control bill that is currently in the House of Representatives. This bill is going to require the states to monitor gun sales, background checks, and licensing. If you don't get a license or don't have one for guns you already own, it will be unlawful for you to have firearms. If your firearms aren't stored correctly it will become a crime, whether any other crime was committed.

So, in this one bill, we have mandated licensing and registration of ALL firearms. Folks I gotta be honest here. I've spoken in the past about triggers that could cause revolutionary actions, and this is one of them. And just in case you might be thinking that this is an isolated incident, here's another little gem to chew on.

Inter-American Convention Against Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, and Other Related Materials.
This obsurdly long-winded title is one of the most insidious things that our dear president has tried to get over on us in his very short but painful presidency. Among other things, it makes it unlawful for anyone to modify a weapon in any way, reload your own amuunition. Oh, and for those of you that belong to gun clubs...Not after this is ratified. Gun clubs fall into a prohibited "association or conspiracy".

This treaty also puts international law and law enforcement in a supervisory role to include the extradition of American gun dealers to Mexico if they file a grievance. I've never spent the night in a Mexican jail, but its not a great place to do any time, I'm told.

And in case you need any other information to give you the heeby jeebies, John Kerry is making this a priority to get passed in the Senate.
